About Dr. McKenzie

Dr. Elisabeth Russell-McKenzie is a formally trained program evaluator with over 20 years’ experience in higher education administration, science education, and program planning and evaluation.  An educational psychologist by training, Dr. Russell-McKenzie has extensive experience as an evaluator of interventions that broaden STEM participation and prepare students from underrepresented groups to enter the biomedical workforce.

Dr. Russell-Mckenzie is a former high school Biology teacher who  moved on to education administration and curriculum planning at the secondary and tertiary level. Dr. Russell-McKenzie has served as the Project Manager/Administrator and mentor for the T34 MARC U*STAR grant at Temple University. For the last ten years she has taught at Eastern University in South Eastern Pennsylvania. The courses she has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels include Child and Adolescent Development, Educational

Psychology, Responsible Conduct of Research, Statistics, Research Methodology, and Applied Research and Program Evaluation.

Dr. Russell-McKenzie’s current research interests include the underrepresentation of minorities, particularly in graduate and postdoctoral science programs, and of women at senior faculty and administrative levels in tertiary education. She is very interested in the role of mentoring; contextual, motivational and identity factors; and the impact of educational and financial policies on underrepresented student populations.

Dr. Russell-McKenzie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of West Indies.  Her Masters and PhD degrees in Educational Psychology with a focus on Program Evaluation were earned at the Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She is a member of the American Evaluation Association, the American Educational Research Association, and the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Russell is also involved in the placement of students in research labs, following up with mentors and liaising with evaluators and sponsors
